LUMBERJACKS TAKE 1ST IN TOURNAMENT!

The East Bay Lumberjacks have won the 33rd annual Fairfield Invitational Tournament by beating the Redding Tigers 6-3 and Fontanettis Athletics 10-5.

The guys banded together and beat the Redding Tigers in the semi-finals behind the excellent pitching of Pat Torsiello and Tommy Hogan.  The team jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.  The Tigers had members of the Reno Astros helping them out.

The championship game was extremely exciting as the Jacks overcame a 4-1 deficit by scoring 7 in the 7th inning and tacked on 2 more in the 8th.  Jasper Smith and Roland Nazar Jr. threw the first 5 innings of the game, and Mike Taylor came into the game and held the Athletics to 1 run over the final 5 innings.

The Lumberjacks have improved to 9-2 overall, and early on in this 2012 season have beaten the defending MSBL National Champions in the Palm Springs tournament, taking 2nd place overall, and have now won the 2012 Fairfield Invitational.  The Lumberjacks goal for 2012 is to qualify for the AABC Stan Musial National Championship Tournament in Florida in August.
