Lumberjacks beat Phillies 5-3

In a light rain, the Lumberjacks won their home opener 5-3 over the San Jose Phillies at the San Leandro Ballpark. The victory came from great pitching and taking advantage of a few miscues from the Phillies. Rob Enriquez started on the mound for the Jacks, and pitched 4 effective innings, giving up on 1 earned run, which came on a fly ball the left fielder wasn't able to run down. Rob gave up 4 hits and struck out 5 Phillies in the start. Wayne Franklin came in and was dominating as well, going 5 innings and giving up an unearned run, while striking out 5 to earn the win. Down 0-2, the Lumberjacks scored 2 in the bottom half of the first when Luke Heil and Wayne Franklin both walked to start the game. They were bunted over to scoring position by Jake Holt, and Brad loaded the bases with a walk. With 1 out Tom Macari hit into what would have been a rally-killing double play but the throw got away from the first baseman and 2 runs scored. Up 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, a passed ball allowed Macari to take third base, and also scored on an errand throw. The rain caused for tough defense on both sides of the ball, but in the end the Lumberjacks walked away with a 5-3 victory and a 2-0 record.
