Lumberjacks 8, Tomahawks 5

The Lumberjacks improved to 4-0 behind the strong pitching and hitting of Mike Taylor. Mike pitched a complete game, striking out 6 while giving up only 2 earned runs, and also went 4 for 5 at the plate with a double. Down 2-1 in the top of the 6th inning, the Lumberjacks scored 2 on a wild pitch to take a 3-2 lead and never looked back. In the top of the 9th inning, Danny Rico had a big hit with runners on, and helped to put the Jacks up 8-2. In the bottom of the 9th, Taylor got the first out, but the second hitter reached on an error by 2nd baseman Tom Macari. A few runs would score, and the Tomahawks put the tying run at the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd with the score 8-5. The hitter hit a soft line drive over 2nd base, but Macari redeemed himself by bare-handing the one-hop behind second base, and in one motion jumped, twisted, and fired a strike to Lex Robins at first-base to retire the hitter and end the game. Kudos to Brian Karst who had 2 hits and played flawless shortshop, and Jake Holt for drawing 3 walks and playing solid third base.
